with Camden Think & Do

Camden Think & Do’s recent two-week pop-up event in Somers Town featured a pair of t-shirt printing workshops open to all local residents.

Held at the Ossulston Tenants and Residents Association Hall, the workshops encouraged Somers Town residents to upcycle their old t-shirts with new designs, breathing fresh life into their wardrobes. Inspired by our collaboration with the Somers Town History Club, the designs showcased local historical motifs. These included Gilbert Bayes’ snail and ship finials, the St Pancras Church arch, and an iconic photograph of local boys playing in the street.

Think & Do aims to cultivate local initiatives that foster community and address the global ecological crisis. With the UK ranking as the fourth largest textile waste producer in Europe, these workshops offered a practical way to combat this issue while promoting social cohesion. By repurposing wearable garments, participants directly contributed to reducing landfill waste.

Over the two sessions, nearly 50 t-shirts were printed for participants of all ages. The workshops provided attendees with enjoyable, wearable items and valuable skills, empowering them to continue upcycling garments at home.
