at Belvue SEN School

A screen printing workshop was held at Belvue SEN School in Ealing as part of a series of creative workshops organised by October Gallery.

In addition to our services for people living with dementia, we also facilitate workshops for neurodiverse individuals or those with mild cognitive impairment, as many of the sensory techniques are transferable. This workshop drew inspiration from October Gallery artist, Jordan Ann Craig. A member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe, Craig creates paintings, prints, and textile works inspired by Indigenous textiles, beadwork, pottery, and landscapes. As screen printing is one of her primary methods, we conducted a session combining this technique with paper cut-outs.

The visual similarity between Craig’s geometric patterns and the childhood pastime of creating paper snowflakes proved advantageous. This familiarity not only made the activity accessible to the students but also provided a generative and productive method for crafting stencils for printing
